After a successful campaign by campaigners the government has agreed to lower the age for screening for bowel cancer from 60 years old to 50 years old. Around 4,500 people were being diagnosed with bowel cancer between the ages of 50-59 and over 1,200 were dying from the disease. The lower screening age will ensure more cases of bowel cancer are picked up in this age group and will help save lives.
Screening is the best way to diagnose bowel cancer early when it is treatable and curable. Screening from 50 will help save more lives from the second biggest cancer killer.
