Sharan’s Crohn’s disease story
In 2001, Sharan woke up one day with diarrhoea and abdominal pain. She thought it was the heavy, spicy Indian food she had at her cousin’s wedding, but her symptoms didn’t stop. By 2002, she...

Guts UK, the national charity for the digestive system, is delighted to be hosting a free online event to help people get to grips with microscopic colitis, an inflammatory disease of the bowel.
At Guts UK, we provide expert information and support for people living with microscopic colitis. The condition is characterised by watery diarrhoea, usually accompanied by urgency and problems with bowel control. Often people have night-time symptoms and symptoms can be unrelenting. This can lead to a substantial loss of quality of life.
Microscopic colitis can develop at any time, but is more common in middle-age, with those affected often diagnosed between the ages of 50 and 70. It also occurs more frequently in women and can occur earlier in people who smoke. Microscopic colitis occurs in 18 people in 100,000 people, per year.
The event takes place on Wednesday 30th April 2024 from 5.30pm to 6.45pm. It is a virtual event and will take place on Zoom.
You can sign up for the event here on Eventbrite.
The event is for anyone affected by microscopic colitis – including people with symptoms, people who have a diagnosis, and their family, friends or carers – as well as anyone who’d like to learn more about the condition.
We’ll be joined by panellists who’ll share their expertise on microscopic colitis including gastroenterologist, Dr Suneil Raju and IBD nurse specialist Bethany Hallam. We’ll also be joined by two patients who live with the condition and will be sharing their personal experiences.
There’ll be an opportunity to hear from each of our guests and to ask them any questions you might have about microscopic colitis.
