Sharan’s Crohn’s disease story
In 2001, Sharan woke up one day with diarrhoea and abdominal pain. She thought it was the heavy, spicy Indian food she had at her cousin’s wedding, but her symptoms didn’t stop. By 2002, she...

On Sunday 29th June, our phenomenal #GUTSelfie campaign took place for the fifth year. You took to Instagram to help us raise awareness of digestive symptoms and conditions and make vital noise for our guts.
This year, over 230 people proudly shared their selfies, united in their mission to help the UK get to grips with guts!
On Sunday 29th June, more than 230 of you took to your Instagram pages, (ours is @gutscharityuk), loud and proud. You shared your thoughts and experiences about life with a digestive condition, inspired by the theme Behind the Scenes: Making the Invisible, Visible.

By posting your #GUTSelfies, you did far more than “just share a selfie”. You showed others that it’s okay to talk about your digestive conditions and symptoms. You sparked importance conversations and encouraged others to seek help and get the reliable information that they need, when they need it most. In sharing your reality, you helped a community to grow. A community where people feel supported, safe and not alone with the things that they face in their daily lives. You made the invisible, visible.

All of these numbers add up to mark a fantastic fifth year of our #GUTSelfie campaign. Thank you for being part of it!
#GUTSelfie is an important campaign that helps to kick start crucial conversations about digestive symptoms and conditions, from helping people to better understand when to seek help to breaking the stigma surrounding our guts and shining a light on the challenges and misconceptions so many people face when living with a digestive condition.

We are making progress. But we need to continue reducing the taboo that still often surrounds our digestive systems. Our research has shown that:
We all deserve better. Together, we don’t stop until we get there. By taking part in our campaigns, like #GUTSelfie, you can help us!
Without you, we wouldn’t be here. Our hopes for the future are big. 25 feet of guts is a lot to understand, after all. It’s been 54 years since our charity was founded and things have improved across the UK, but there’s still so much more we can do. That’s why we need your support. Imagine a world where Guts UK charity didn’t even need to exist. Together, let’s take even bigger strides for our guts, into a world where misunderstood guts are a thing of the past.
You are at the heart of what we do. Thank you for supporting our mission and championing our cause. Together, we can help the UK get to grips with guts!
