Guts UK Pancreatitis Awareness Campaign

November is the month of our Kranky Panky pancreatitis awareness campaign. Pancreatitis is an under-researched area, especially when considering the devastating impact it can have upon families. At Guts UK, we're proud to be the only charity funding a research fellowship into pancreatitis. We must do more to help families affected by this dreadful condition.

The team at Guts UK are passionate about raising awareness for pancreatitis. We also want to generate funds for more high-level research into causes and treatments for the condition.

Why “Kranky Panky”? Thanks to the nickname given to pancreatitis by patients! Throughout the month of November, we share individual stories for each day to raise much-needed awareness and funds for imperative research.

November has become Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, which sees charities across Europe on “Purple Alert”. The idea is to raise awareness by lighting up famous monuments in purple throughout the month. We support this movement, but we want to widen the scope of the campaign to highlight other serious health conditions that affect the pancreas.

We fund the only research fellowship into pancreatitis in the UK. But we urgently need more research to get a specific treatment for this condition. With your support, we aim to make pancreatitis better understood, better diagnosed and better treated to save lives.

Julie Harrington, CEO, Guts UK.

The NHS lists pancreatitis as one of the most painful health conditions anyone can suffer from. Yet there is still very little known about the disease and there is currently no effective treatment.

The diagnosis and care of pancreatitis, acute and chronic, can be extremely challenging. The publication on 5th September 2018 of NICE guidelines for pancreatitis could be a turning point in how the disease is managed and how those affected are treated. The guidelines aim to improve quality of life by ensuring that people have the right treatment and follow-up, and get timely information and support after diagnosis.

What’s new for 2019?

Following the huge success of our first ever Kranky Panky campaign last November, we’re gearing up for Kranky Panky 2.0. This year, we’re launching video stories and we want you to get involved. As ever, we will be featuring different stories for each day, and will have a range of fundraising ideas for you to get cracking with.

If you feel like sharing your story and becoming a part of our growing Kranky Panky community, get in touch with us via info@gutscharity.org.uk or phoning 020 7486 0341.
