The conference was fascinating. I knew gastroenterology is a wide subject but I was amazed at the huge range of topics covered, from stomach cancer and IDB to the role of our genes and our minds in digestive disorders.
The conference had record numbers of attendees and felt buzzy and dynamic: while gastroenterologists were practicing new endoscopy techniques in one room, specialist nurses were discussing optimal patient care in another room, young scientists were presenting their innovative research in the main hall, and senior doctors were debating which are the best treatments for patients.
Guts UK had a strong presence, from the Science of Digestion public event on the first day, to Julie Harrington, our CEO, rousing speech in the main session, to talks by our funded researchers, who presented their work on IBD, nutrition and gut bacteria, acute pancreatitis, Barrett’s oesophagus and liver disease. I look forward to working with our researchers and meeting our supporters."
